South Sound Critter Care needs several types of volunteers.
Many people are interested in working directly with the animals. This opportunity requires a three-month long commitment to work one six-hour shift every week. It is extremely rewarding -- and a little messy -- but great fun.
Other people have different skills to offer. No matter what your skills or areas of interest, fill out our volunteer form and we'll get in touch with you soon.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
If you are pursuing a degree in a related field, be sure to check out our Internship opportunities.
Current Volunteer Openings
It seems like we are always building or taking care of our animal pens. We need volunteers with experience in construction, wood working, plumbing and darn near anything else to help us.
Many of the critters we care for eat lots and lots of green stuff. To help keep costs down, we have a garden on our site. Right now we need volunteers who would like to help us raise greens and veggies to feed the animals. You would be able to set your own schedule and if desired could help plan next year's garden.
Needed for 1/2 day shifts. These angels want to help wildlife but
are not crazy about being an animal rehabilitator. They are comfortable keeping up all the activities in the kitchen: moving laundry through the system, animal food prep duties, washing the dishes associated with wildlife care, and keeping the kitchen clean.
Front Office/Phone Help
Needed for 1/2 day shifts. We are willing to train volunteers on how to answer the phones, greet people needing assistance with wildlife, and data entry for getting new critters into our record system. Familiarity with local wildlife species is a plus. A friendly face with enthusiasm is a must.
Committee work to help develop a number of programs:
1] Fundraising: for our annual spring auction
2] Developing an educational program for school-aged children
3] Capital development including grant writing for a permanent facility in Maple Valley, WA.
Time frames are flexible and working at home possible. This kind of work is challenging, rewarding and interesting.
